What is Slow Fashion?
To put it simply, slow fashion is the opposite of fast fashion. Fast fashion emerged around 20 years ago and has had a devastating effect on both people and the environment.
Slow fashion is about buying better-quality garments that will last longer, and concerns itself with the entire supply chain of the fashion industry — from sourcing natural or recycled materials, to how workers are treated and paid.
It is a movement and philosophy that advocates for buying fewer, better items — and wearing them for longer. It asks consumers to consider the true cost of what they buy: who made it, how it was made, and what happens to it at the end of its life.
Fast fashion, by contrast, encourages the purchase of cheap, trend-led clothing that is often discarded after only a few wears. This creates enormous quantities of textile waste, and the production process is often harmful to the environment and exploitative of garment workers.
At Kinnari Design Studio, we believe in slow fashion. Every piece we create is handcrafted by skilled artisans using traditional techniques, designed to last and to be treasured. We use natural fabrics, responsible dyes, and we pay our artisans fairly.
Buying slow fashion means investing in pieces that have meaning — that connect you to the people who made them and the traditions they represent.
